The Walt Disney Company Bought Lucasfilm and the rights on Star Wars Saga

The Walt Disney Company informed about the purchase of Lucasfilm Company, it cost 4.05 million dollars, and moreover, it was the property of the Star Wars creator George Lucas. About a half of the sum Disney will pay with cash, another half – with the share capital of the company.

‘The time has come to the Star Wars into the hands of directors of the new generation.’ – commented George Lucas in his official statement.

The first episode of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope was released in May 25, 1977 and has become one of the most popular fantastic motions of the XX century. The film got six Oscar Awards, what is more, it generated a sequel (continuation), and a prequel (which are depicting which preceded the Star Wars story), it originated books and computed video games, all this comprising the ‘universe’ of Star Wars.

As it was earlier mentioned, starting from June 11, 2012 the Walt Disney Studio was headed by Alan Horn. Before that he was in charge of the Warner Brothers Studio. When Alan Horn has become the head of the company, he replaced Rob Ross, who resigned in April. The reason for the last to leave was failure of the sci-fi motion John Carter.

The first film of Star Wars Episode IV: New Hope saga was released in year 1977 and brought forth a new universe – nowadays the plot involves more than 17 000 characters on thousands of planets and a period of time more than 20 00 years.

Also Lucas and Walt Disney Company are planning to recover one more valuable Lucasfilm project – saga about Indiana Jones.

Walt Disney Co. is one of the biggest companies in the sphere of entertainment. It was founded in 1923 as an animation studio. Nowadays, except for the above mentioned studio, the corporation owns 11 thematic parks, two aquaparks and several radio stations and TV channels, particularly ABC, what is more, Pixar Animation Studio and Marvel Comics. The headquarters of organisation are situated in Burbank, California.
