George Danelia’s full-length animated feature «Ku! Kin-dza-dza-dza»

In February 2013 comes to cinemas long-expected George Danelia’s animated film «Ku! Kin-dza-dza-dza», based on fantastic and satirical comedy. The script of this animated feature was based on G. Danelia and R. Gabriadze’s scenario, that was filmed into feature film «Kin-dza-dza!» in 1986. And so animated feature has a lot of common with a film but there are some differences.

For example, two main characters were changed. Instead of builder Mashkov and a student Gedevan on the Plyuk planet will get world famous cellist Vladimir Nikolayevich Chizhov and his great-nephew Tolik from Nizhnie Yamki, that came to Moscow to enter the DJ’s courses. Relations between Chizhov and Tolik are one of the main storylines in the movie. Chizhov does not know that Tolik is his nephew and thinks that he is a crook, who wanted to rob his apartment. And because of this Tolik  is huffy on his uncle. At start they didn’t find common language. In this animated film an adult and a teenager will swap over their places. Earth people will survive on Plyuk thanks to Tolik’s enterprise and his ability to emit some awful sounds on uncle’s ‘cello that aliens like. For example, he sold aliens his hat when saw local money. Adventures will take our heroes on the planet Hanud but there won’t be a planet Alpha in the cartoon.

Just like in the movie, the main characters will meet Uef and Bee on Plyuk. However, unlike the film the aliens become unlike the people outside. There will be new characters. For example, robot Abradoks, which carries the program of ideal plyukanin and which travels with Uef and Bee, also Uk, Diogen and others. On the planet Plyuk will be added a new fityulki race to chatlans and patsaks. Some characters that were already in the film, will be named: a woman on a cart - Tsang, a man in a boat - Kyrr, leader of the smugglers - Trats, lost alien - Romashka, etc.

The cartoon will reflect some current realities. For example, cell phones, relationships between the province and a capital, the concept of a guest worker. The plyukan’s vocabluary basically remained the same, adding only a few new words, such as zurilo

Production:

The film was put into production on February 12, 2005. In 2006 between the Department of Culture and Art of HMAO (customer) and The film company " Yugra-film " (executor) was signed a government contract for providing services for the production of the animated film "Kin-dza-dza". From the budget of the Khanty-Mansiysk autonomous okrug’s film company "Ugra-film" was allocated 56 million rubles (40% of the estimated value) and the other 60% (84 million rubles) were promised by CSTC "Rhythm".

Initially, about 60 people had worked with the project. But in December 2008 the financing from "Ugra-Film" was completely stopped and according to G. Danelia he had to dissolve people and to surrender the space with all equipment. In 2009, in order not to destroy the idea and to save all work and money that were spent on the film, G. Danelia and a group of enthusiasts decided to complete the picture as a thumbnail. In December 2009 the film was released in the form of limited animation (3000 figures, noises, music). Disc with the film was transferred to the Department of Cinematography of the Ministry of Culture, where the members of the expert committee positively evaluated the work and recommended to finish the film in that form as it was originally conceived.

According to George Danelia, in 2010, financial difficulties were resolved. Film producers were changed. "First Channel", the film company "STV" and an actor Leonid Yarmolnik became producers instead of the film company "Ugra-Film". Since 2010, the Department of Culture HMAO (the original investor of the film) tried to return 106 million rubles that were allocated to the production company "Ugra-Film" for the creating the feature film "Knyaz Menshikov" and the animated feature "Kin-dza-dza" in the court. According to the contract movies should be finished to November15, 2009 but this wasn’t done. And so, on August 20, 2012 the Arbitration Court HMAO decided to collect from the production company "Ugra-Film" 115.3 million rubles in favor of the Department of Culture HMAO.

On April 17, 2012 was published the RF Government Order № 502-r in which the Ministry of Culture ordered "to take the action in the established order to complete the production of the  film "Kin-dza-dza" up to January 1, 2013". According to cartoon producer S. Selyanov the picture will be completed by November 2012 and will be released in early 2013. On XIV International Forum "Cinema Expo" 2012 have been announced that the premiere will take place on February 21, 2013.

During shooting this animated feature a film director G. Danelia was afraid that his picture may be forbidden. «’Cause the name of the planet’s ruler is PC as in the first film. And now may be thought that we  mean the Party of Crooks…».
